Amie's music plays all over Asia and Australia - February 26, 2010
Hey Everyone,
I just sent out the first of two contracts to a publishing company named SBMP (South Beach Music Publishing) that requested my entire library for use all over Asia and Australia. This means I will get paid. This is lovely and new! My career is taking a turn. I am focusing on licensing and publishing for a while, getting myself added to as many publishing libraries as possible for commercial/TV/Film work and writing for other artists. Since I made this decision a few weeks ago three companies have picked up my songs. It feels right.
I get to play Bazaar Stock tomorrow Feb. 27th. KC Turner began this festival last year and it ended up being my favorite gig of the year. I got my start performing in front of people at the Bazaar. You are only aloud to play original acoustic music. It is a listening room and a great place to be a part of. I am grateful such a place exists. The SF music scene is really cool right now. There are so many great songwriters here right now. A supportive lot. It's relieving to feel some clarity about my musical direction. Even nicer to have it supported.

Amie's Song What Would Love Do get's placed! - January 21, 2010
Ok, so I don't know where it'll be placed yet, but Note Born Music, a publishing company has added my song "What Would Love Do" to their music library, and have told me that they already have a home for it.
I have waited 10 years for this, and hope it is just the beginning of my songs being placed in TV/Film/Commercials. I don't see any other way of recouping the vast fortune I have spent making music.
I'll keep you posted about where it lands.....
Thanks for packing Yoshi's Lounge !! - January 1, 2010
Thank you to all who came out last night to Yoshi's to support us. We had a full house and got it all on film. DVA Productions was there to capture the event and to help me create a bio/concert video. Very grateful to work with people who are great at what they do.
Amie is back in the studio with Ben Leinbach this week to begin recording her follow up to her critically acclaimed 2008 release "King In a Temple".
Amie will be featured on the cover of UK online Somojo Magazine Mid Winter edition. Out in mid January.

Penwell Progress! - May 28, 2009
Hello, Hello,
This is an Amie Penwell professional progress report as well as a performance alert and there is much to report indeed! I have been so busy on all fronts (moving, writing, working) that I almost forgot I had a show this Saturday.
Along with having my portrait painted by Master Painter Dan Fontes for the Pin Ball Pin up girl promo for this years Pin Ball Exposition (say that 3 times fast) Yup, my mug and embellished chest size will be plastered all over The Bay Area in the weeks to come.
I have joined forces with drummer Andy Korn (Ronnie Specktor's drummer for the past 13 years), and Bass player Brahm Sheray to build the band of my dreams. (think Radiohead meets Sade). Needless to say I was honored by their approaching me last month to help me build on my project.
Another honor came when I was invited by a Humboldt State University's program contributor Maria Bartlett to be interviewed for a show called "Through The Eyes of Woman" I am to be the first artist featured for this month long series on woman in music. It's a You can tune in online at:
http://www.khsu.org/listen_live at 1:30 on Monday June 1st!
I am providing the soundtrack for a documentary called 'The Eyes Of Thailand" (eyes of this eyes of that) I have provided two songs "Mercy" and "Show Me To The River" and other compositions yet to be revealed. The documentary is gaining much momentum with Writer/Director Windy Boreman at the helm.
Please check it out. I will keep you posted on the upcoming fundraiser being planned.

SKOPE MAGAZINE REVIEW - February 20, 2009
Amie Penwell, King in a Temple
February 20, 2009
Singer/Songwriter/Pianist/Producer, Amie Penwell takes full credit for all except two songs on King in a Temple. This talented musician brings you down to the real nitty-gritty of music with her soulful approach. On the verge of gospel and pop, but just real true-to-heart soul singing represents Penwell and her latest work.
Other artists on the album include: Grammy-nominated producer, Ben Leinbach, who also contributes the drums, percussion, drum programming and bass—Chris Haugen on guitars/mandolin/acoustic dulcimer and last but not least Margot Holtzman on viola. The backing instruments to Penwell’s signature voice are right on tune here. Each artist complimented one another superbly by adding a whole other dimension to the sound.
Right away from Amie Penwell, I hear gut-wrenching emotion belted out in such a deep and sincere way. The funny part though is that Penwell is pouring herself out at you, but in such quiet fashion. Her tone is consistently soft-spoken throughout the record, but performed with such powerful conviction. The entire album is revolved around the loss of a person close to Penwell’s heart. She takes you on a trip of what she’s feeling first-hand, which makes for an enlightening experience. “Show me to the river, somewhere to wash away this feeling” captures the true spirit of King in a Temple right from the start.
10 well-performed and well-versed songs can be heard featuring one live cut, “Old Widow Maker” along with a Talking Heads cover, “Naïve Melody”. Definitely watch out for this indie artist as she displays high potential on her latest release. Amie Penwell seems to be an artist with an honest-to-truth sound and is on pace to Humanize the music world.

Amie Penwell, Face of Pinball Exposition???? - February 3, 2009
Yup, that's me.
Do I like pinball? Not really. I guess it's cool, but I have a friend Dan Fontes who is obsessed with pinball. One of the finest painters I can think of, he was commissioned to do the poster for the Pin Ball Exposition that happens every year here in the Bay Area.
I will be the pin ball pin up girl this year on billboards and sides of San Fransisco buses. No, this is not a job I thought i'd ever be asked to do, but in the spirit of saying yes to all things creative with extraordinary artists.... I said yes.
I'll post it when it's done.
Listen to radio interview on radio show "Lyrical Venus" On music page of this site - January 29, 2009

"King In a Temple" is beginning to chart on college radio! - January 29, 2009
The college radio campaign with Planetary Group has begun this week and I got my first report of King's progress on it's first college radio campaign.
I am ecstatic to report that it is being played in heavy rotation and beginning to actually chart on some of the larger radio stations.
I finished up my coaching sessions with Eugene Foley of Foley Entertainment NY. An opportunity that came through the very generous creator of CDBABY Derek Sivers. I have signed on with Eugene to manage me and I am acutely clear that I am in good hands.
I couldn't ask for a better guide.... More soon!
King In a Temple begins a College radio campaign on 26th of January! - January 24, 2009
I have set up so much over the last 4 months. SOOOO much incubating, exhaustion of funds, and hope. Hope that someone somewhere is going to hear something on this record and be the match that helps create a spark.
Taste of Triple A a compilation put together by Jim Nelson will be making it's rounds on the 6th of February, and Eugene Foley will be shopping King In a Temple for licensing opportunities in TV, Film and commercials.
I have to give Derek Sivers a shout out for giving me the opportunity to work with Gene Foley. We began these 8 coaching sessions in October as an experiment. Derek paid for it, and much has been accomplished with this kind of direct assistance. There is no way I would have the know how to take half the risks I have taken over the past 4 months with out the guidance and support.
Thank you Derek!

King on iTunes! - January 5, 2009
Hey All,
After several requests for the lyrics to King In a TempIe, I finally got around to typing them out. Just press the song title in the music section of the site and they will come up along with the story some stories around their recordings.
In other news,....It took a couple months, but King is up on iTunes.
The record begins it's radio journey at the end of this month of January through a college radio circuit, and it will go another tour through the land of Triple A (acoustic adult alternative) by way of the amazing Taste of Triple A sampler put out by Jim Nelson.
I'm still being guided by Eugene Foley of Foley Entertainment NY. Every suggestion he has been very fruitful. Holy Gratitude!
I finished filming the video for
"Show Me To The River" . It will be available for visual consumption in February.
I'm really looking forward to this year, though per usual I can do all the foot work in the world, but I can't control outcomes. I'm hoping King In a Temple gets a fair shake!
Happy New Year!

Private Cd Release, a Smashing Success! - November 17, 2008
Last Saturday night on the 15th of November 2008, my friend Liz Palacios, a ridiculously talented jeweler, and friend, threw me the kind of Cd release celebration a girls dream about.
We had over 100 people in her beautiful home. It was a clear warm night, white wine, and fancy food that was prepared by my friend Lisa Christianson. THANK YOU LADIES!. The kind party you see in movies. She matched everything to my album cover! It was awesome.
She lives on a Lagoon in Marin County. There was a moonlit view of Mt. Tamalpais, Balinese decor on a deck the size of my house. Her home is like a comfortable art gallery. Everywhere you look something beautiful bought directly from the artist in some far away country. I must say it was delightful.
She has this piano. I want this piano!
It's the kind of piano that makes you play well even if your not so good. Luckily i've gotten pretty familiar with my instrument of choice, but to play a really good instrument is always a treat. Of course as I sit here and write this report I can't remember the name of it. UGh!
My dear friend and musical partner Grammy Nominated Producer/Engineer Ben Leinbach, accompanied me on percussion. Many ladies in the audience were swooning. I got asked more times than I could count if he was single. Sorry to be a buzz kill ladies, he has a lovely wife and two small children.
My partner in life, and man who gave me my last name Matt Penwell made his debut on bass for a couple songs. We are working on the rest of the set. He will soon be a regular fixture with me on stage. Can I just tell you how grateful I am?
I AM SO GRATEFUL!
I sold enough cd's to begin paying the college radio distributor, and the studio where i will be shooting a video for "Show Me To The River" during the week of Thanks Giving.
The feed back on the record is even more positive than I had hoped. The Marin Independent Journal is doing a review and article on me for the November 20th Lifestyles Magazine.
I hope it's good review!
