Penwell Progress! - May 28, 2009

Hello, Hello,

This is an Amie Penwell professional progress report as well as a performance alert and there is much to report indeed! I have been so busy on all fronts (moving, writing, working) that I almost forgot I had a show this Saturday.

Along with having my portrait painted by Master Painter Dan Fontes for the Pin Ball Pin up girl promo for this years Pin Ball Exposition (say that 3 times fast) Yup, my mug and embellished chest size will be plastered all over The Bay Area in the weeks to come.

I have joined forces with drummer Andy Korn (Ronnie Specktor's drummer for the past 13 years), and Bass player Brahm Sheray to build the band of my dreams. (think Radiohead meets Sade). Needless to say I was honored by their approaching me last month to help me build on my project.

Another honor came when I was invited by a Humboldt State University's program contributor Maria Bartlett to be interviewed for a show called "Through The Eyes of Woman" I am to be the first artist featured for this month long series on woman in music. It's a You can tune in online at:

http://www.khsu.org/listen_live at 1:30 on Monday June 1st!

I am providing the soundtrack for a documentary called 'The Eyes Of Thailand" (eyes of this eyes of that) I have provided two songs "Mercy" and "Show Me To The River" and other compositions yet to be revealed. The documentary is gaining much momentum with Writer/Director Windy Boreman at the helm.

Please check it out. I will keep you posted on the upcoming fundraiser being planned.

Moving/HSU Radio Show - April 27, 2009

I am in the middle of a move from one dark little cottage in the Redwoods to a bright and sunny Victorian across town. My life is in boxes for the 67th time and I am a little scattered at the moment.

I was just sent some questions for an upcoming radio interview I am doing on May 4th (though i'm not sure when it will air) for a Humboldt State University radio show.

I made a statement in my last entry about not doing any more songwriter nights for a while. By this I mean performing alone. Though I will be doing a spot for Bazzaar Cafe Birthday Bash on May 30th called "Live stock". I got my start there and don't say no to a place that supports live acoustic original music. That being said, I am ready to plug in. I am ready for a band.

This isn't something I thought I could ever afford. This is why I have gone it alone all this time and to tell you the truth I am really hungry to play with great musicians. It's lonely playing on your own. It's one thing to do a few songs in a set solo, it's something VERY different to carry the performance on your own.

Just as all this was going on in my head I was approached via MySpace of all places by a very talented session drummer in the area named Andy Korn, who was interested in working with me. He came in tow with a bass player named Brahms, who was also interested in my project. The Universe provides when we are ready to receive it. We meet this week to begin rehearsing.
